Dementia in Animals?

Are dogs superior to human beings because dogs don’t get dementia?

The above was a recent post on Facebook. Several friends corrected me, saying that dogs can get dementia.

Wow! I have never heard of anyone telling me that his or her dog has dementia.

So, what does a dog with dementia do? Sniff a fire hydrant and forget why? Forget where it buried a bone? Bark for no reason at fleas it fears are taking over the world?

What about other animals? Do they get dementia?

Does an elephant with dementia forget that it has a good memory?

Do beavers with dementia damn a dam?

Do robins with dementia forget how to bob bob bobbing along?

Do monkeys with dementia forget how to peel a banana? (A profound tragedy!)

Do fleas with dementia forget which dog or cat they are living on?

Do cats with dementia stop lazing around and go out and get a job?

Do homing pigeons with dementia forget how to build a home?

Do lions with dementia become vegetarians?

Do cows with dementia stop mooing and start barking?

Do race horses with dementia start betting on humans?

Can turtles with dementia find their way home?

Do beetles with dementia forget the lyrics to their songs?

Do fish with dementia forget how to swim?

I forget how I was going to end this . . . Oh yeah! I remember . . . And they lived happily ever after.
