Doctor Madan Kataria, a doctor in Mumbai, India, celebrated the first World Laughter Day on May 10th, 1998. After that, World Laughter Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in May.
Three years before 1998, in March, 1995, Dr. Kataria created Laughter Yoga. He knew that laughter is the best medicine and developed a way to get people laughing without jokes.
Get a group of people together. Start with fake laughter, and soon the laughter becomes genuine and contagious. People are laughing for no reason.
Laughter Yoga is superior to telling jokes because, with Laughter Yoga, you do not have to understand the language or punchline to start laughing.
Having said that, here are some jokes—and I use the word “jokes” loosely—Not All About World Laughter Day (WLD):
“Why did World Laughter Day cross the road?”
“How many WLDs does it take to change a light bulb?”
“Knock Knock”
(For the uninitiated, HO HO HA HA HA, along with clapping, is done to signal the end of a Laughter Yoga exercise before beginning another.)
“And now for a fact about clownfish.”
If the female dies, the dominant male will get first choice of food and begin to gain weight, ultimately becoming female. She will then choose a breeding partner among the available males, which is usually the largest and most aggressive male available. At the same time, everyone else moves up one in the pecking order. The two will pair off and breed together until something happens to one or the other, at which point the cycle begins again.
“And now back to Not All About World Laughter Day.”
“What do you call World Laughter Day in the morning?”
World Laughter Day walked into a bar, and the bartender started laughing and could not stop.
